A ministry of prayer

Prayer must be a priority for the pastor.
One of the things that the Apostles set forth early
on was the model of priorities in ministry. In Acts
6, they were appointed the first Deacons so that they
could, "devote themselves to the ministry of the Word
and to prayer." In concert with numerous other texts,
this has become the model to show a pastor where his
priorities must be.
In light of that, I want one of the hallmarks of my ministry at Hickory Withe to be a ministry of prayer. Starting this week, I'm going to solicit specific prayer requests from members in the church, gradually rotating through the roll. I'll pray for these requests in private, and also pray for them from the pulpit when appropriate. I hope the leadership of the church will also join me in praying for the congregation in this way.
